My Global Village
My global village starts at school with my friends. I have friends whose parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents are from other countries. J.P. has great grandparents from Germany and Marissa’s mom is from India.
Three years ago I went to the Caribbean for Spring Break. We went to St. Christopher. One day we went snorkeling. We got on the guide boat and went to the snorkel area. We saw lots of tropical fish like yellow tangs and flame angels. We also went to a spot where there had been a ship wreck! There were groups of look downs, interesting silver fish, and some sea urchins. The wreck had occurred when a ship’s sailors didn’t see a rock cliff and it got a huge crack in the side. That night we went to a place called Lobster Tails for dinner. They had a lot of seafood like fish and, of course, lobster. Some fish were cooked in certain ways, like with special seasonings.
Sometimes my dad has to go out of the country for work. My dad has been to Denmark, France, China, Italy, Portugal, England, Canada, Norway, Sweden, and Hungary. When my dad went to China, he went right before the 2008 Summer Olympics and he brought us a t-shirt. When my dad went to France, he brought us chocolates. One time my dad went to Italy and he brought back an official Ferrari racing team hat and shirt. The last time my dad went out of the country was two weeks ago when he went to Denmark.
Some of my friend’s family is from out of the country. I have been out of the country and my dad has been many places out of the country. As Kid President said, “we are all on the same team; let’s start acting like it.” We might not look the same on the outside but look the same on the inside. You might be German, you might be Indian, but we all are the same because we love each other!
